Hi, I’m Anett – and This Is the Story of How I Fell for Budapest (All Over Again)
As a kid, I always thought Budapest was beautiful. Walking along the Danube or seeing the city lit up at night felt magical – but it was still just part of everyday life. It was home, and you know how it is; when something is familiar, you don’t always stop to look at it closely.
During my university years, when my adult life was just beginning, I started to experience the city in a whole new way. I liked it a lot – the grand buildings, the buzzing cafés, the lively rhythm of city life. But to me, it still felt like “just a big city”. Like all capitals, I thought it had that same busy energy and cool vibe. Nothing too surprising.
But everything shifted once I started traveling more, and especially when I lived abroad. Seeing other places made me appreciate just how much Budapest has to offer. I began to notice all the little things I used to pass by – the way old and new blend together, the quiet hidden corners, the energy of the ruin bars, and those small, lovely details only locals really know. It started to feel less like “just” a city, and more like my city.
Then the questions started rolling in: every time someone found out I was from Hungary, the questions would start: where to go, what to eat, what not to miss. I became the unofficial Budapest guide, and I loved it. Helping them plan their trips, sharing the spots I love, and seeing the city through their eyes made me fall for it even more. Especially when it came to food – I’m a huge food lover, so recommending my favorite dishes, traditional sweets as well as retro snacks became kind of a passion.
That’s what inspired me to start this site: I wanted to create a space where I can share all the stories, finds, and advice I’ve gathered over the years. No filters, no fluff, and definitely no tourist traps (actually guiding you to spot and avoid scams) – just honest, local insight from someone who slowly (and unexpectedly) grew to love a city more than she ever imagined.
